Dan Beevers

  • Dan has been caring for patients at Circus Dental for over 15 years having joined the practice in 2006.
  • He has an empathetic approach to patient care for all aspects of restorative dentistry. He has a particular focus of interest in Dental Implants and Oral Surgery. He obtained an MSc with distinction in Implantology in 2012 and has a wide experience in this field being able to reconstruct hard and soft tissues where teeth have to be lost or are missing.
  • Dan held a clinical lecturing position at Bristol University based in the Oral Surgery Department at Bristol Dental Hospital for 13 years and now concentrates his educational efforts in post graduate teaching. Dan is an active member of the International Team of Implantology and has had the pleasure of training Europe-wide in his field.

Colin McGuirk

  • Colin's practice is focused on Restorative Dentistry and Implantology. This includes a particular interest in managing tooth wear and providing minimally-invasive aesthetic (cosmetic) dentistry.
  • Colin has a Masters in Clinical Dentistry from Kings College, London in fixed and removable prosthodontics and an MSc in Implantology from Bristol University. 
  •  Colin is a clinical teacher on the Masters Program in Prosthodontics at King's College, London. He is an educator on the Foundation Dentist Scheme in the south-west, Colin teaches for Health Education England and lectures nationally and internationally, particularly in the middle-east, on his beloved subject of tooth wear and prosthodontics.

Tim Harris

  • Tim's practice has been focused on providing dental implants for over 15 years. He has a skillset that ranges from replacing the single tooth, multiple teeth, up to the rehabilitation of the full mouth, with the use of dental implants. Tim and the implant team at Circus Dental, spend increasing amounts of time with referred cases of failing implants to resolve issues.
  • He has extensive training and teaches the advanced hard and soft tissue regeneration procedures to provide long term predictable outcomes. 
  • He completed his MSc in Dental Implantology in 2012 and is a fellow of The International Team of Implantology (ITI) and current UK & Ireland Study Club Coordinator and Leadership Team member. 

What to expect during your first visit?

On your first visit to the practice, we will discuss your dental history with you and discuss any concerns you may have. We use the consultation appointment to fact find using the following methods: 

 A full dental examination

 X -rays and/or a 3D bone scan (CBCT) if required

 Intra-oral imaging – this modern technique creates a 3D image of your teeth without the use of classic moulds.

 Full periodontal charting – this is used to assess the gum health by measuring the depth of gum pockets between the tooth and gum

 Photos of your current smile

The visit lasts about 60 minutes.

The dental implant, resembling a tiny titanium screw, is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. It is designed to serve as a replacement for a natural tooth root, bonding with the bone. This process sets the foundation to replace missing teeth. Once in place securely, the dental implant may support one or more replacement teeth, referred to as crowns.

The abutment is a connector fixed on or within the top of the dental implant. It serves as a linking point and offers additional support for the crown.

The crown (replacement tooth) is custom-made to replicate the appearance, shape, and fit of other natural teeth. It is then affixed to the abutment, completing the tooth replacement process.

What does the procedure involve, and how long does it take?

The dental implant procedure typically follows a set of standard steps and requires a few visits to complete.  Initially, a qualified dental professional conducts a thorough assessment, including reviewing the patient's history, performing a dental examination, and discussing a comprehensive treatment plan. Since each patient is unique, the overall treatment duration varies based on individual needs, medical and dental history, jawbone health, and the chosen technique and materials. The timeframe can range from a few months to over a year, for more complex cases.

The next stage involves the placement of the dental implant under local anesthesia. After this surgical procedure, patients need time to heal before proceeding to the restoration phase. During the healing period, typically lasting from a few weeks to a few months, it is crucial to maintain good oral hygiene. This time allows for the bone around the dental implant to grow and fuse with the implant surface, a process known as osseointegration. Once adequate healing has taken place, an impression of the dental implant site is taken by the dental professional.
